Have you ever had a tough time choosing between having candy or ice cream? Now you don't have to with this Skittles gelato!
If you know me well enough, you know the only thing that rivals my love for ice cream is my love of candy. Specifically, fruity candy just like Skittles. If you've ever wondered who buys those 5-pound bags of candy from grocery stores, it's me. I absolutely love candy.
Thank goodness the Ninja Creami is here to save the dessert day so I no longer have to choose between eating candy or having a bowl of gelato! I dreamed up this Skittles gelato recipe with a determination that no matter how many tries it took, I would create the perfect candy gelato.
I have to say, this gelato tastes exactly like eating a pack of Skittles (if they were cold and creamy).
One of the best parts of this recipe is that it's completely customizable! The gelato recipe uses real Skittles, and you can choose which colors and flavors you want to put in the gelato.
I chose a regular pack of Skittles and used the red, purple, and green (thank goodness lime Skittles are back). These are also my favorite, so it was an easy decision.
However, if you want to use just the orange and yellow, that will make a great Creami gelato too! Any type or color of Skittles will work wonders and create an amazing gelato.
One important note for this recipe is too pour the final mixture through the strainer almost immediately after cooking. Some of the Skittles may be a bit melted and try to stick to the bottom of the pot. By straining the gelato base quickly, the Skittles won't have a chance to stick to the pot making for an easier cleanup!
So if you're looking for a fun new Creami gelato recipe, grab some Skittles, a Ninja Creami pint, and get spinning!

Skittles gelato uses real Skittles to create a delicious gelato that tastes just like the candy but creamy! Choose whichever flavor and color combinations to create a unique gelato each time.
To make this recipe in the Ninja Creami Deluxe, multiply all ingredients by 1.5
Note: 1 serving = 1 pint
Combine 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup whole milk, 3/4 cup heavy cream, 2 egg yolks, and 1/4 cup Skittles in a pot and cook on the stove at medium heat for 5 minutes, whisking constantly. This will ensure the eggs will not be scrambled.
As soon as the five minutes are up, make sure the Skittles have turned white (they have released all their flavor).
Use a strainer to strain the mixture into a small bowl, ensuring all Skittles are removed.
Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container, ensuring it does not go over the max fill line.
Wait for the pint to cool, then place it into the freezer (ensuring it is on a flat surface). Freeze for 24 hours.
After 24 hours, remove the pint from the freezer, and plug in your Ninja Creami machine! Time for the magic.
Remove the lid from the pint and grab the Ninja Creami outer bowl. Place the pint securely into the outer bowl and cover with the lid. Once the lid is on, place the outer bowl into the machine, twisting to the right until it locks into place. Press the "Gelato" button and (try to) wait patiently for the creamy treat coming your way.
Once the process is finished, press and hold the button on the left side of the Creami to twist the bowl to the left and remove it from the machine. Twist the lid off of the outer bowl and remove the pint.
Now your Skittles gelato is ready to enjoy!
