Protein ice cream is all the rage right now. Just look in the freezer section at your local grocery store, and you’ll see an endless amount of options tempting you to eat pints packed with protein.
But why get a pint of store-bought protein ice cream when you can make your own at home? This Ninja Creami Fairlife protein ice cream is easy to make and tastes delicious!
As runners, Alex and I love finding ways to sneak some extra protein into our diets. We are both ice cream lovers, so we figured giving this Fairlife protein ice cream a try would be an easy way to get some more protein and still enjoy our nightly ice cream!
While you can use other protein shakes (check out our recipe for chocolate protein ice cream made with a Premier protein shake), the Fairlife protein shakes typically don’t have that protein-y aftertaste.
If you’ve never tasted the “protein taste” and aren’t sure what I’m talking about, that’s okay! Once you taste it, you understand that it’s not something you want to have in a bowl of chocolate ice cream.
By using a Fairlife protein shake as the main base for this Ninja Creami Fairlife protein ice cream, you can easily make a protein-packed and tasty ice cream in a few minutes (minus the grueling 24-hour freezing wait time).
You can typically find Fairlife protein shakes online or at various wholesale clubs (including Sam’s, BJ’s, and Costco). It might take a few tries to score them in a store as they are extremely popular, but they are well worth the wait! You can also order them from multiple online retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, or Costco.
So what are you waiting for? Grab a chocolate Fairlife protein shake, a Ninja Creami pint, and get spinning!
First Time Using the Ninja Creami or Looking for Tips?
While the Ninja Creami is a machine with only 7 (or 11) buttons, it can still be intimidating! Here are a few tips and tricks Alex and I have picked up since beginning our ice cream journey with the Ninja Creami!
- Can I use a different type of protein shake than Fairlife? Sure! There are plenty of them on the market and the results may differ slightly, but using this recipe as a guideline should help create a delicious protein ice cream!
- What should I do if my ice cream comes out crumbly after the first spin? We recommend adding a tablespoon of milk (any type will work) and re-spinning on Re-Spin. Repeat this process until you achieve the desired level of creaminess!
- What button should I use to spin my protein ice cream? We recommend the “Lite Ice Cream” button. Since this mixture doesn’t contain much sugar, the lite ice cream setting will be the best option!
- Do I need to re-spin my Fairlife protein ice cream if I freeze it after spinning? We have found the perfect way to enjoy leftovers is to either let it sit on the counter for 15 minutes or microwave it for 10 – 15 seconds. This allows the ice cream to soften and be ready to eat!
- What type of pudding mix should I use? We used Jell-O chocolate sugar-free instant pudding mix. You only need to scoop the powder into your ice cream mixture, no need to make the pudding and then use it!

Ninja Creami Fairlife Protein Ice Cream
Description
This Fairlife protein ice cream recipe uses a Fairlife chocolate protein shake as the main ingredient to create a simple and delicious chocolate ice cream!
To make this recipe in the Ninja Creami Deluxe, multiply all ingredients by 1.5
Note: 1 serving = 1 pint
Ingredients
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk 1 1/3 chocolate Fairlife protein shakes, 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 tbsp chocolate sugar-free pudding mix.
Note: You can use a single shake, but the mixture will not fill the entire pint (which is okay too)!
Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint, ensuring it does not go past the max fill line.
Freeze the pint for 24 hours, making sure it is placed on a flat surface in the freezer.
After 24 hours, remove the pint from the freezer, and plug in your Ninja Creami machine! Time for the magic.
Remove the lid from the pint and grab the Ninja Creami outer bowl. Place the pint securely into the outer bowl and cover with the lid. Once the lid is on, place the outer bowl into the machine, twisting to the right until it locks into place. Press the "Lite Ice Cream" button and (try to) wait patiently for the creamy treat coming your way.
Once the process is finished, press and hold the button on the left side of the Creami to twist the bowl to the left and remove it from the machine. Twist the lid off of the outer bowl and remove the pint.
If the ice cream came out crumbly, add 1 tbsp of milk (any type will work) and re-spin on the Re-Spin function. Repeat this process until you achieve the desired level of creaminess!
Now your Fairlife protein ice cream is ready to enjoy!
Note
If you don't like following recipes, don't worry - you can customize it however you want! We personally use oat milk and coconut cream to avoid most of the dairy, and it's some of the best ice cream we've ever had.

Hi, what is the pudding-mix for? I am from Germany and got my Ninja Creami two days ago… Unfortunatelly, I have no idea, where to find such a sugarfree mix…
Love, Maria
The pudding acts as a bit of a stabilizer and gives it a nice texture, but I have heard plenty of people make their Fairlife protein shakes into ice cream without it and it still turns out great!
I’d like to have a bit more chocolately tasting ice cream. I’m worried if I add more cocoa powder it will be more bitter. Any suggestions for intensifying the chocolate taste? Thanks, Donna
I would try chocolate pudding mix or maybe chocolate syrup! Those might help jazz up the chocolate flavor without adding too much extra.
this is what I do and it is chocolatey
1 shake
2 TBSP cocoa powder
2 TBSP Monkfruit
1 TBSP sugar free chocolate pudding mix
Is it instant pudding mix or regular cook and serve package
It’s just the pudding mix (the powder) from the small box Jell-O instant pudding, no need to make the pudding and then use it!
Can I add a tablespoon of pudding powder after I mix it up if I forgot to add it in the beginning and hit mix n button
It’s recommended to add before freezing so that the pudding can act as a stabilizer for the ice cream!
